How to Be an Ally to the Transgender & Non-Binary Community 

There is much we can do to show our support and allyship for trans and non-binary folks. This course provides a basic understanding of the trans and non-binary communities. Examples of how to easily show allyship are shared as well as why acceptance of all people is good for the bottom line.
This session covers:

  • How to incorporate allyship using social media, virtual meetings and written communication
  • Adapting communication styles to show support for all people
  • Strategies for correcting others when miscommunication occurs
  • Practicing the use of pronouns and other gender inclusive language options
  • Non-binary language suggestions for inside and outside the company


Understanding Gender Non-Binary + Gender Inclusive Language 

During this session, the concepts of sex, gender identify, gender expression and sexual orientation are untangled and presented in a simple format. Based on Shell’s own experience and business expertise, this session offers concrete and clear practices for inclusion of a gender diverse population.
This class is for anyone seeking a broader understanding of gender nonconforming and transgender people. The session is for long time advocates as well as new allies seeking to become better informed on gender and gender inclusive language. Some of what we cover includes:

  • Heighten awareness and sensitivity on the importance of addressing customers in a gender-
    inclusive manner
  • The costs and consequences of misgendering prospects and customers based on
    assumptions
  • Explanations and definitions of the differences in gender; biological sex; gender expression
    and sexual orientation
  • Suggestions for creating policy and practices for a gender inclusive work environment
  • Simple practices for becoming an ally to the trans and gender nonconforming community

 


The Gender Revolution: Explore the Rapidly Evolving Complexities of Gender Identity 

Millennials and Gen Z (Millennials born 1981 to 1996–Gen Z 1997 to 2012) are changing perceptions quickly and the majority believe gender is on a spectrum not a binary. Consider how this impacts the marketing of current products and services and how these products and services are presented in the marketplace. This session covers how to incorporate gender inclusive language into your company. The gender spectrum is explained, and examples are shared from companies embracing this rapid revolution.

Don’t Call me Ma’am – A Transgender Story of Living in a World Without Labels

Based on Shell’s best selling book of the same name, participants gain a better understanding of gender identity and how Shell exited the closet and embraced living as a transgender person.
By the end of this session attendees will:

  • Expand their understanding of gender nonbinary and transgender people
  • Develop a compassionate attitude for all people different from themselves
  • Be aware of what questions to ask/not ask a transgender or nonbinary person
  • Learn about the use of gender-neutral pronouns and language
